Reflections:

"Even though I had never subscribed to the traditional idea that all objects contain a spirit, I couldn't deny that a part of the woman we lost remained somewhere inside Hollywood."

How do you hold on to memories? What objects hold memories for you?

Practice: Downward Facing Dog

Activity: Salt Dough Impressions

Using 1 cup of flour, 1/2 cup of table salt, and 1/2 cup of water, create a simple salt dough by mixing the dry ingredients first, then slowly add water while mixing.

Roll the dough and into flat circles and impress something meaningful to you, or something from nature. A leaf, a coin, a handprint-- anything that speaks to you that you want to capture. Create a hole in the top if you wish to make an ornament or pendant.

Wait overnight for the piece to dry, then paint if you wish.

Fact vs Fiction:

Fact: You can purchase a robot puppy, though it may take a few more decades before we reach the level of technology in this chapter.

Music from this chapter:

  • "Moon River"

  • "Yesterday" by the Beatles

  • Keiko Fuji, enka singer (a type of Japanese ballad music)

  • "Rainy Days and Mondays" by the Carpenters
